Crystal Coast Half Marathon, 10K and 5K

Don’t miss this St. Patrick’s festival with FREE admission and parking! This year, over 75 arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, rides, face painters and other family-friendly activities will be present! 6th Annual Clam Chowder Cook Off
January 20, 2017; 6 PM to 8 PM

Participants will enjoy a tasting-sized portion of each of the four chowders prepared by four local restaurants and then vote for their favorite. But that’s not all! This year’s clam chowder cook off will also include a cornbread taste off! The four restaurants competing include Finz Grill with Chef Heather Hill and Amanda Girard, Clawson’s 1905 Restaurant & Pub with Chef Jon McGregor and Chef Corrie Robbins, Dock House Restaurant with Chef Gene Yarbrough and Donald Fulcher, and the Boathouse at Front Street Village with Chef Kenny Collins and Julie Mills.

7th Annual Mac Daddy’s Winter Festival

Carolina Chocolate Festival

With tastings, demonstrations, bake-offs, golfing and relaxing at the spa, you won’t want to miss the annual Carolina Chocolate Festival! All proceeds from the event go to benefit local charities and in the past, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Carteret County charities— so be sure to head out and support if you’re able!

Art from the Heart

This year marks the 28th annual show put on by the Arts Council of Carteret County dedicated to the sale of original artwork! The show is open to artists 18 and over who live in Carteret, Craven, Onslow, and Pamlico counties with registration open Friday and Saturday February 10 and 11th from 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday February 12 from 9 AM to 1 PM. Artists are able to submit two pieces of original art to be judged and then put up for sale.

But that doesn’t mean the beautiful weather, fun outdoor events and laid-back Coastal Carolina vibes are disappearing along with it. North Carolina’s Crystal Coast is lucky to experience excellent temperatures and sunshine well past summer’s official close and must-visit events in Beaufort, Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, Havelock, Newport and the surrounding communities will continue throughout the year!

Alive at Five Outdoor Concert

Glow Party at the Pier – May 28, 2016; Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier, Emerald Isle NC. This event is free to attend for all ages and music will be family-friendly. Since CNN recently rated Emerald Isle one of the Top 16 Family Beach Destinations in America, event organizers wanted to provide a fun, new beach experience even after the sun goes down! Music will include Top 40, shag and popular beach music in this local dance party.

Cannon Day – May 28, 2016; 2303 Fort Macon Rd, Atlantic Beach NC. Learn how Civil War cannons function at Fort Macon, with firing demonstrations from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM on the hour.

WCHS Jazz Band – May 28, 2016; 7 PM to 8:30 PM, Jaycee Park, Morehead City NC. The annual summer concert series kicks off this Memorial Day weekend with the WCHS Jazz Band and runs through Labor Day weekend along the beautiful waterfront in Morehead City.

Celebrate Spring on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast

Carolina Home and Garden Spring Fling
April 2, 2016
Newport, NC

The Spring Fling will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM in Newport, with live music from 12 PM to 4 PM and activities for the kids like a bounce house and magician all afternoon long.

Bites & Blues
April 2, 2016
Morehead City, NC

A Carteret County favorite, this event provides locals and visitors alike with the opportunity to “Bite Through the Night” along the Morehead City waterfront. From 5 PM to 8:30 PM, visitors can stop at each locally-owned participating restaurant or business along the waterfront to try a “bite.” There will also be blues music along the way to entertain waterfront strollers! At the end of the event, guests will be invited to choose their favorite bite and the winning restaurant will receive a prize!

Emerald Isle Marathon
April 9, 2016
Emerald Isle, NC

This is now the 3rd year for this marathon, half marathon and 5K in Emerald Isle! Held at the Western Ocean Regional Access, the marathon begins at 6:15 AM, the half marathon at 8:15 and the 5K at 8:30. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Emerald Isle bike path.

Fort Macon State Park Centennial Celebration
April 22-24, 2016
Atlantic Beach, NC

The North Carolina State Park system turns 100 years old this year! To celebrate, the first series of many events will be held Friday April 22 through Sunday April 24. Friday will include a dedication and canon firing, fireworks and Marine Corps Band; Saturday a Fort Macon battle observance and night artillery demonstration; and Sunday another Fort Macon observance.

28th Annual Coastal Home and Garden Show

Where: Crystal Coast Civic Center, Morehead City NC

A great place to find inspiration this spring! The Home and Garden Show will have over 12,000 square feet of exhibits from local builders, landscapers, interior designers and more! 25th Annual Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Festival
When: March 12, 9 AM to 6 PM
Where: Emerald Plantation Shopping Center, Emerald Isle NC

Living near a community called Emerald Isle, you know there are St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to be enjoyed! This year’s festival will have over 75 arts and crafts vendors, food, amusement rides and dozens of other family-friendly activities. There will be a Little Ms. and Mr. Leprechaun Contest for kids ages 2-3 and 4-5 judged on the most original and creative costume, as well as festive food like corned beef and cabbage, shrimp burgers and more! Admission and parking for the annual festival are free!

Emerald Isle’s Easter Egg Hunt
When: March 20, 12 PM Noon
Where: Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation, Emerald Isle NC

In addition to an egg hunt, there will be sidewalk chalking, face painting, music and more! The egg hunt will begin at 1 PM when the starting whistle will be blown! Participants are encouraged to bring their own basket to enjoy this free activity.

BHA’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt
When: March 26, 11 AM
Where: Beaufort Historic Site, Beaufort NC

The Beaufort Historical Association will present their annual egg hunt for children ages seven and younger this month! All participants need is to bring their own Easter basket to enjoy the free hunt for candy-filled eggs!

Take advantage of free admission for all to the North Carolina Aquariums (the closest is located in Pine Knoll Shores!) on Martin Luther King Day!

5th Annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off
When: January 22, 2016
Where: North Carolina Maritime Museum, 315 Front Street, Beaufort, NC

This local clam chowder cook-off is now in its fifth year and invites four volunteer guest cooks to compete at the Harvey W. Smith Watercraft Center in Beaufort! What’s more, this year’s event will also include a cornbread taste-off! Attendees of the event will all receive tasting-sized portions of each of the chowders and then vote on their favorite. All proceeds go to support the Friends of the North Carolina Maritime Museum and tickets are now on sale.

American Music Festival Series
When: January 23, 2016; 8 PM
Where: The History Place, Morehead City, NC

This music-centered event is part of a greater series of five memorable evenings! The American Music Festival presents a variety of artists and ensembles, exploring some of the greatest composers and classical music in history. Guests can enjoy Beethoven’s early, middle and late works and specifically in the January 23 performance, Calidore including Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms.

The Holidays Have Arrived on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina!

We’re seeing signs of the season all around the Crystal Coast, including on the calendar! Our schedules all tend to pick up and our planners start to fill with festive parties and gatherings with family and friends— And this year, you’ll notice in Coastal Carolina community calendars as well!

Santa Arrives in Beaufort
When: November 27, 2015; 1 PM to 3 PM
Where: John Newton Park, Beaufort Waterfront

From now through December 19, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in residence on the Beaufort Waterfront! The couple arrives this Friday, November 27 by boat around 1 PM, rowed by the Beaufort Oars across Taylor’s Creek before docking just outside the Deckhouse Restaurant. Head to the Waterfront early to greet the pair and get in line early for a visit with Santa!

Christmas at the Barnyard
When: November 27 and 28 and December 3 through 19; 5 PM to 8 PM
Where: 844 Roberts Road, Newport NC

Bring the whole family for an evening farm tour under hundreds of holiday lights and decorations. The kids can visit Santa in his sleigh and sip hot chocolate, huddle around the bonfire and listen to holiday music.

Emerald Isle Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair
When: November 28, 2015; 8 AM to 6 PM
Where: Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Gymnasium

This year marks the 4th annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair and will feature all handmade items from local arts and crafters. The Craft Fair is held the same weekend as the Emerald Isle Christmas Parade (kicks off Saturday at 3 PM on Highway 58) which marks the beginning of the holiday season in the community! Afterward, there will also be a Tree Lighting at Merchant’s Park!

Morehead City Christmas Art Walk
When: December 4, 2015; 4 PM to 8 PM
Where: Downtown Morehead City NC

If you’re an art lover, you will enjoy this annual Morehead City holiday event! The Art Walk will feature downtown Morehead City galleries as well as other participating downtown businesses and restaurants.

Trick or Treat! Halloween Events on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast

pumpkins-1363061Goblins, ghouls and witches will take to the streets this weekend trick-or-treating in local neighborhoods and participating in all of the Halloween fun on the Crystal Coast. But you don’t need to wait until Halloween night to enjoy the festivities— many will begin on Friday and last all weekend long!

Rocky Horrow Show at Carteret Community Theatre

The Carteret Community Theatre will host the Rocky Horror Show this year and no, not the picture show! The musical performed on stage will not be the same as the classic picture show, but promises all attendees a great time!

Halloween Carnival

When: October 30, 2015; 6 PM to 8 PM

This carnival offers fun for the whole family, including a glow-in-the-dark mural, face painting, photo booth, cake walk, Trunk or Treat and more!

Scared to the Core
Where: Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center, Harkers Island, NC
When: October 30-31, 2015; 5:30 PM to 8 PM

A ghoulish good time will be had at the Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center this Halloween! There will be family-friendly activities both indoors and outdoors— indoors for younger kids and outdoors in the Haunted Woods around the Willow Pond for older kids and adults! Halloween costumes are welcome and this event is FREE admission.

Run Your BOOty Off Road Race
Where: Morehead City Waterfront, Morehead City, NC
When: October 31, 2015

Don your costume and hit the ground running along the scenic Morehead City Waterfront in this 1 mile or 5K race. After the race, you can enjoy the kids festival at Katherine Davis Park with games, food, drinks and a trunk or treat. Whether you participate or spectate, this is a fun event to watch all of the costumes! Cost to participate is $30 for the 5K and $15 for the 1 Mile.

4 Crystal Coast NC Festivals You Won’t Want to Miss!

From local food events to those dedicated to flying kites, our stretch of North Carolina will surely be buzzing over the next few months. Below are four events in Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, Swansboro and Morehead City that you will not want to miss:

North Carolina Seafood Festival
When: October 2 through October 4, 2015
WhereMorehead City Waterfront
Morehead City, NC

The largest festival in Eastern North Carolina, this seafood-loving event will be held the first weekend in October. The festival offers local and regional entertainment, sailing events, a surf and pier fishing contest, an 8K road race, playground for the kids, FREE Southern Outer Banks Boat Show, fireworks, amusement rides, local vendors and of course, seafood!

Beaufort Wine and Food Chef’s Competition
When: September 29, October 6 and October 12, 2015
Where: The Boathouse at Front Street Village
Beaufort, NC

Just for charity, over a dozen chefs will debut their best dish in this friendly competition! The competition will consist of four rounds— the first three held at the Boathouse at Front Street Village in Beaufort from 7 PM to 9 PM and the final round at the Coral Bay Club in Atlantic Beach from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. Those chefs chosen as winners from the first three rounds will donate $500 to a charity and the ultimate winner will receive an additional $1000 to donate.

Swansboro Mullet Festival
When: October 10, 2015; 9 AM to 11 PM and October 11, 2015; 9 AM to 5 PM
Where: Downtown Swansboro
Swansboro, NC

This festival, as you may have guessed, celebrates all things mullet! This year marks the 60th annual festival in downtown Swansboro and attendees can find mullet any way they like— fried, broiled, grilled, smoked, you name it! The festival will begin Saturday, October 10 with a parade down Highway 24 and continue all weekend with a carnival, arts and crafts, games, music and more.

Carolina Kite Festival
When: October 24 and 25, 2015
Where: “The Circle”
Atlantic Beach, NC

This FREE two-day event is open to the public and is set to be held at the main beach access “The Circle” in Atlantic Beach next month. Here you will see more than 100 kites soaring above, watch kite-flying demonstrations and find kids activities from candy drops to kite-building workshops. You’ll want to witness the masses of kites at this fun festival and take photos of this beautiful fall site!
